Ocean Test

An ocean had to be created for the Pirate Ship scene. Numerous methods were considered including cardboard cut-out which would then be moved to create a sense of movement, the use of plastic to again create movement, displacement maps in After Effects and a lightwave ocean. This is an example of the After Effects Ocean.

Character Development

This character development starts to build the textures and layers. Images are created in Flash, Photoshop, Lightwave and After Effects. The purpose of this demonstration is to: show textures and to show actual game-play. Character is not only walking in this scene, but collecting objects which then changes the GUI.

Non Graphical Demo version of gameplay sequence. Objective of this demonstration is to monitor time, movement and positions.

3D Village Test

Test created using a terrain surface I created in Lightwave, a sky I created in Photoshop and a rendering of a 3D village created in both Photoshop and After Effects. Each Layer was bought in seperately, turned into a 3D layer and constructed. Whilst the overall feel of the piece is to have a hand-drawn quality to it, the layers of the village are too child-like. Obviously, more work is needed on the village design to integrate better with the ground and sky.

Animatic for the practical side of the project. The narration behind the piece is to set the scene for the advertisement. A voiceover will be included in the final piece. Audio is suited because of its slow build up to the climax of the piece.

Virtual Cocoon Helmet

What makes this helmet truly virtual is that it has tubes that can spray scents, so you can smell your virtual experience. These tubes can also spray in your mouth, so you can taste your virtual food.

Also included in the helmet are temperature control functions such as a small fan and heating unit to give the illusion of humidity. As far as I know, it does not have a Freon tube like a refrigerator to simulate cold.

Yes, that is quite strange, and who knows if it will really work? The creators of this device want to sell it for about 1,500 pounds ($2,675), and plan for it to hit the market in about five years.

Surround Video

“Surround Video is a means of visually immersing the viewer into a TV programme.

It is like surround sound, an optional extra that enhances viewing on a normal display. The idea is to use a wide angle (or fisheye) camera fixed rigidly alongside the normal camera shooting the programme, and to project the image onto the walls, ceiling and floor of the viewer’s room.

I found the color palette of this piece to be quite interesting as well as the integration of text and a beautiful score, provided by Danny Elfman.

Using the infrared camera in the Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar (two IR LEDs), you can accurately track the location of your head and render view dependent images on the screen. This effectively transforms your display into a portal to a virtual environment. This is the end credits for the film. Credits created by Jamie Caliri. I love the visual style of the piece and the find the color palette to be quite effective.

The Seed

A two-minute animated voyage through nature's life cycle, following the trials and tribulations of a humble apple seed.

It was made using a mixture of stop motion papercraft and 2D drawn animation.
The visual style of the piece is quite interesting and eye-catching. Transitions between scenes is quite effective.
